Hidden London - October 2011
|
Another
fantastic day out, and so well
organised, even the weather.
52
of us went by coach to London Wall where we
were met by a Blue Badge Guide who
led us through a very enjoyable day.
We took a
stroll through hidden alleys in the City, learning many new facts.
Through Postman's
square with the memorials to civilian heroes, Smithfield (Smooth field)
Market
to the spot where William Wallace and many 'heretics’ were executed, mostly by
fire.
Lunch was
taken near St Paul’s Cathedral, many using the crypt restaurant.
We then made the trip to Little Venice to catch the Water Bus along the
Regent’s
Canal to Camden Lock. Along the way our guide gave us an interesting
commentary,
pointing out many places we would normally pass without knowing the
story.
A break for
tea and exploration of the market completed a very interesting day.
Thanks go to our Chairman for such good organisation of this day out.
